Wondering how to make your tiny space loook bigger? Atleast visually?

Solution is here… Follow these little steps that can make a huge difference in your space.

1. Think like a minimalist. Now what do you mean by minimalist or minimalism? It is nothing but “Less is More”. It is all about avoiding the unnecessary things that occupy the space in your happy place. It is about simplicity, styled in an elegant way keeping in mind the function of the space. So how do you achieve this minimalist look? Declutter!!!  Start by putting aside the things that you dont need. you’ll probably be wondering how much of stuff you have stored up, once you are done with decluttering that little space of yours.

2. Now think what the actual purpose of that room is? is it a living room? a dining room? a bedroom? study space? whatever it is.. Set down your essentials in that space and remove the ones that aren’t needed there anymore. It helps you to give a clear vision of the space of how it has to be used and makes it easy to organize and decorate.

3. Welcome as much as natural light that is possible. If that is not possible, think of the other types of lightings in your interiors, like pendant lights, table and floor lamps, spot lights, track lights, chandeliers etc, that will help brighten up your space that will in return make your space bigger and cozy.

4. Let’s talk about the selection of the furniture now. Choose the furniture whose legs are visible, and not the ones whose legs are closed with the fabric. That is because visible legs give an airy feeling, it gives an effect of free flowing movement in the space and keeps your eyes moving from one point to the other and doesn’t block your vision near the furniture.

5. Use the vertical space as much as possible. you may not have much space on the floor to place everything you have. Your space is just not the only space where you can walk, but the walls are also your space and these walls when properly used, can create a magic in that tiny space. Open shelfs for storage, art pieces for decor can make a huge difference. Tag along your four walls as well, in this beautiful story of your home /space.

6. Let it be a window or the door, use full length curtains that allows your eyes to keep moving and make you feel that your space is larger than you actually think it is. Also, move the curtain rod few inches above the window such that it gives a tall and airy effect.

7. Contrasting colors or the same shade of color? Well now you might be thinking of giving a contrast color to either wall or the furniture so that your space looks beautiful. yes! it is a fact that contrasts look beautiful when matched properly but it is a big NO for a tiny space. so how do we get a beautiful look without using contrasting colors? Here is the solution. Keep it neutral. Select the lighter hues of paint for the wall. Lighter shades makes your space look bigger whereas darker shades closes your space even more. For the furniture, Play around with the tones and shades of that particular lighter hue that you’ve selected for the wall. And give few pop of colors here and there with tiny decor pieces like cushions or artifacts or small furniture to give that beautiful look to your space while making your space look bigger.

8. Placing a mirror on the wall, will add a little depth to your space, making your space look bigger. So a mirror in a small space is definitely a big YES. But not all mirrors make your space feel bigger. Here are few factors to consider while selecting a mirror for a small space.

i. You might think that your space is small, so you should be opting for a small mirror as well. But you dont have to think that way. Instead of pairing few smaller ones together, go for one large mirror as it will look less crowded in your space. One large piece adds more dimension to your space than few smaller ones.

ii. Opt for a large mirror but go for a smaller frame. Because, small frames occupy less wall space, which leaves us a feeling of more open wall space.

iii. Place the mirror opposite to a window such that the natural light reflects through the mirror spreading more light throughout the room, adding depth to the space and making it look bigger. If you dont have a window or dont have an option to place a mirror opposite to a window, place it near a light source, like 1 or 2 feet away from the chandelier or place some kind of light source beside the mirror for it to reflect.

iv. Mounting the mirror at the right level is a game changer. Hanging the mirrors  at an eye level, which is around 57″ – 60″ is ideally the right height i.e., the mirror’s center should be at the eye level.

v. Let it be a floor mounted or a wall mounted mirror, any type of mirror can make the space look bigger and beautiful. But if it is a small space, wall mounted mirror would be the right option as it leaves you with the free floor space.
